"First Saturdays" is a grass roots initiative to help reconnect area Catholic medical providers with Christ and His church. Under the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit and through the intervention of Saints Cosmas and Damian, this collaboration of the local guild of the Catholic Medical Association helps doctors deepen their faith and connect to their peers.
We will begin with celebration of the Mass at 8 am by Fr. Gregory Lockwood at Christ the King Parish, 8510 Wornall Road, KC, MO.
Following Mass, we will have our usual social time/coffee/LaMars donuts. A short interactive lecture will follow, given by one of our members on his/her chosen topic. The remainder of the time will be given to active member discussion of the lecture subject, and/or timely topics of the day. In keeping with the "New Evangelization of the Catholic Church," this new format will allow us to be more active participants in our own formation and in applying our faith to our individual and collective lives. It also allows us to better discuss the role of our Catholic faith as it applies to our daily professional practices in healthcare.
The program will cover a broad range of medical and spiritual topics related to all of the contemporary issues facing Catholic doctors today. This will be an interactive format with Catholic catechesis and discussion. The goal is to light the fire of the Holy Spirit in area Catholic medical providers and to integrate Christ and His Church fully into their practice. Little by little, this will transform our families, our parishes, our practices and our hospitals. Organized and united in Truth, Catholic physicians with CMA, and the full support of both dioceses, will transform the next 100 years of healthcare in our country, starting here in the heartland, here in Kansas City.
All gatherings will be held at:
Christ the King Catholic Church

The tradition of the White Mass in the United States finds its origins in the development of the national Catholic Medical Association in the early 1930s. From its inception, the medical profession has been understood as a healing profession, a way in which Christ’s work continues upon the earth. Moreover, since the apparitions at Lourdes in the late 19th century, the plight of the infirmed- and those who care for them- have taken on renewed appreciation in participating in the mysteries of Christ’s own life. The White Mass, so named by the color worn by those in the healing profession of medicine, gathers health care professionals under the patronage of St. Luke to ask God’s blessing upon the patient doctor, nurse, and caregiver alike.
